Romano claims Arsenal player will undergo medical today ahead of loan exit

Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that Lucas Torreira will undergo a medical today as the Arsenal midfielder edges closer to sealing a loan move to Fiorentina.

It will be a boost for the Gunners to offload Torreira. The Uruguay international has played no part in Mikel Arteta’s plans this season.

He spent last season out on loan. And as the transfer deadline looms, it looks to be imperative that Arsenal now offload some players – particularly if they hope to make any further signings.

The good news is Torreira looks to be incredibly close to joining La Viola.

Romano confirmed on Monday that the Serie A side were looking to pay around £1.3 million to take the 25-year-old on loan for the campaign.

Meanwhile, the journalist suggested that a £13 million option to buy was also being discussed…

Romano has since provided a further update. He has claimed that Torreira will arrive in Italy today and undergo a medical.

He has also reiterated that the deal will involve a £1.3 million loan fee…

Torreira loan is better than nothing for Arteta with Arsenal prospects looking bleak for midfielder

There was a time when Arsenal fans could not fathom why Torreira was not a key part of the side at the Emirates.

Many seemed adamant that Unai Emery was making a huge error not giving him more chances.

Unfortunately, the writing then appeared to be on the wall when Arteta seemed just as unconvinced about the combative midfielder.

So it is no surprise that a summer exit looks set to be agreed. It will likely be a disappointment for some at the club that they have been unable to agree a permanent deal.

A loan is better than nothing, however. Torreira earns £75,000-a-week, so moving his wages on will provide a boost in the final days of the window.
