Romano: Celtic enter talks with 24-year-old speedster who’s got one year left on deal
Celtic have reportedly made a move to try sign Aurelio Buta from Belgian top-flight club Royal Antwerp.
According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, talks are ongoing between Celtic and Antwerp about the 24-year-old.
The Hoops are reportedly on the search for a new right-back this summer.
Anthony Ralston is currently the only senior option at right-back for the Scottish giants. Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed both exited last season. In addition, Jonjoe Kenny’s loan spell at Parkhead has ended.
Buta, who’s got one year left on his Antwerp contract, is a full-back with blistering speed.
The Portuguese defender has shown he’s got the flexibility to play as either a right-back or a right wing-back in different systems.
He finished the last campaign with five assists in 34 appearances.
Celtic need a new right-back quickly amid Buta rumours
Celtic are starting to get a move on now with their business, but even so they are cutting it a bit fine.
They are just days away now from their first competitive match in a Champions League qualifier, so to have a squad that looks thin on the ground is worrying.
Of course, Ange Postecoglou’s squad needs a new right-back.
Ralston, 22, is still extremely raw, but may be needed in crucial matches.
Buta is a fairly unknown talent to Scottish audiences, but he’s got European experience and did play against Rangers last season.
