Should Saiss sign up as expected, then he will become the third first-team player to commit his future to the club in a matter of days after Matt Doherty and Conor Coady last week.

Thoroughly deserved

Saiss may not be starting regularly under Nuno Espirito Santo at the moment, but his importance to Wolves mustn’t be understated.

Last term he was an ever-present as Wolves romped to the Championship title, making 42 appearances in the league.

The club have since been lucky enough to snap up Euro 2016 winner Joao Moutinho for just £5 million, which has expectedly seen Saiss spend a bit more time on the bench in 2018/19.

He’s still made 18 appearances for the club across all competitions though, providing cover in both midfield and defence.

Saiss’ versatility makes him a hugely important and useful squad player, especially with Nuno Espirito Santo not having the biggest of squads.

He has recently been reported to be on Atletico Madrid’s radar this summer (Lions de l’Atlas),which perhaps tells its own story.

When the news of Saiss’ extension is confirmed, it is sure to go down well with the fans.
