Romain Perraud has told French newspaper L’Equipe that he wants a “new challenge” amid reports that Celtic are interested in landing the OGC Nice defender in a £1.5million deal.
France Under-21 international Perraud has sprung on to the radar after impressing on loan at second-tier side Paris FC last season, where he scored five goals in 33 games from the left side of defence.
L’Equipe claim French side Brest and indeed Celtic are interested in the defender, who looks as though he is to return to parent club Nice and begin pre-season training on Monday.
However, he claimed on Thursday that he is looking to leave Nice this summer, as he wants to find a new challenge. He has only played four times for Nice’s senior side, and looks unlikely to break into Patrick Vieira’s team.

“I’m under contract. I respect people but, this season, I did not have any phone call from them,” Perraud said. “I’m not even talking about a proposal to extend the contract but just to get some news.
“It is a complicated situation and I hope it will settle very quickly. I have nothing against my current team but Nice missed the train with me. I want a new challenge.”
TBR’s view – £1.5million is a Celtic bargain for Perraud
The Daily Record claimed on their live blog (Friday, 09:06) that Celtic want to sign Perraud for just £1.5million, and if they can nab his signature for that fee, it will be an enormous bargain.
Indeed, Perraud has shown he is one of the best young defenders in French football at the moment with his excellent 2018-19 form, so for such a fee, Celtic will be landing a bargain.
It seems like a move is an inevitability. With Perraud keen to go, and Celtic willing to pay for his services, the only issue stopping the Hoops is that they are not the only side interested.
