Sheffield Wednesday winger Rolando Aarons is ready to lock horns with Sheffield United tonight in the Steel City derby clash.
But Aarons, who is on loan from Newcastle United, has little experience of playing in derby matches after injury robbed him of his chance to feature against Sunderland.
Whenever Newcastle and Sunderland locked horns in the highly anticipated Tyneside derby, Aarons was on the sidelines watching.
But he finally gets his chance tonight in the high-stakes clash between the two Sheffield sides.
Speaking ahead of the Steel City derby, Aarons told The Yorkshire Post: “I love derbies. Every time at Newcastle I was injured so I never got to play in the Tyneside derbies.
“I am expecting a hostile atmosphere from them (Sheffield United fans), but expecting our fans to push us to win. I can’t wait. I am buzzing.”
The importance of this game goes beyond pride and bragging rights in the city. Sheffield United are hoping to go back into the automatic promotion places and only a win would see them leaprforg Leeds into seventh.
Sheffield Wednesday can go up to 11th with a win, which would take them within four points of the play-off zone.
Aarons has been impressive since arriving at Hillsborough on loan in January and will be hoping to spur his side onto victory tonight.
The 23-year-old has registered one assist so far and is waiting for his first goal – could the stage be set for him to star tonight?
