Leeds United’s new signing Rodrigo Moreno has explained he can’t wait to get started at Elland Road and revealed that he wanted the move after a discussion with the club’s director of football Victor Orta.
The Yorkshire giants confirmed on Saturday morning that they had completed a deal to sign Rodrigo on a club record transfer from Valencia.
Rodrigo, 29, is a proven striker that should be entering the peak years of his career and he’s a composed finisher on his left foot.
The Spain international has detailed that he knew he wanted a Leeds transfer after speaking with Orta and he’s also keen to work under high-profile manager Marcelo Bielsa.
“Leeds have been working on this deal for two weeks with Valencia. First time that Victor [Orta] talked to me I knew that I want this new challenge with Leeds, historic club, I just want to help everybody achieve the goals of the season,” he said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.
“Work with him is working with one of the best coaches in football at this moment. I’m really excited to learn from him, to improve my football with hard work and team work.”
Leeds’ hierarchy have barely put a foot wrong in the past couple of years and the signing of Spain international Rodrigo is a statement of intent, as they continue to progress and try return to the club’s former glory days.
Patrick Bamford has earned the right to play in the Premier League after his role in the title-winning Championship season last year, but he can’t be the sole option in attack and the signature of Rodrigo seems like a step to the next level.
He’s a proven frontman on both the international and European stage, which is why Leeds supporters should be excited about his arrival and he could be crucial next season in the attempt to stay in the top-flight.
