Rodrigo Moreno has posted a message to supporters on Instagram after Leeds United suffered a narrow defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road on Monday – thanks to a deflected strike from Raul Jimenez.
The Whites began the match with a change to their initial line-up, as captain Liam Cooper suffered an injury in the warm-up. The skipper was a doubt for the clash anyway, and had to be replaced by Dutch rookie Pascal Strujk at centre-back.
Brazil-born Spain international Rodrigo started in attacking midfield, with Tyler Roberts and Pablo Hernandez on the bench. The match proved somewhat equal, with Leeds dominating possession and territory – but Wolves shining on the counter.
Patrick Bamford had a goal disallowed in the first half, while Illan Meslier was forced into numerous half-decent saves – but neither side were hardly stretched beyond their means. Eventually, it took a bit of luck for the tide to turn.
Raul Jimenez did excellently to keep the ball and as he twisted and turned on the edge of the box, he worked an opening to shoot – but his tame effort looked as though it would hardly danger Meslier. But a Kalvin Phillips deflection wrong-footed Meslier.
The ball nestled into the back of the net and despite some late pressure from Leeds, Wolves held on to a narrow 1-0 win. Rodrigo, a club-record signing from Valencia, posted on Instagram after the defeat – sending a message to Leeds supporters.
