Rodgers stunned by Ramsdale save in Arsenal clash with Leicester
Brendan Rodgers could only say ‘wow‘ after watching Aaron Ramsdale produce a stunning save to deny Harvey Barnes during the first-half of Arsenal’s clash with Leicester City on Sunday.
Arsenal were grateful to Ramsdale 10 minutes before the break after a Marc Albrighton cross was met by Barnes inside the Gunners’ penalty area.
Barnes made very good contact with the ball, and headed it towards goal. However, Ramsdale – who stole the show in the previous meeting between both sides – managed to get his arm up to deflect the attempt away.
It was perhaps close enough to be a save that Ramsdale should have always made. However, he was left with little time to react. And certainly, it was not a stop that Rodgers saw him making.
Replays from the touchline showed Rodgers lift his arms in the air as Barnes headed the ball. Clearly, he expected the equaliser to come Leicester’s way.
But when Ramsdale makes the safe, Rodgers turns towards the camera and can be seen mouthing the word, ‘wow’.
Rodgers must be fed up of the sight of Ramsdale after previous Arsenal meeting this season
As mentioned, it is not the first time Ramsdale has stepped up to save Arsenal against Leicester. When the two sides met back in October, the goalkeeper made a string of stunning stops.
Of course, the highlight came when he somehow got across to a James Maddison free-kick.
His save on Sunday was probably not on that level. But it was certainly a moment of magic from the Englishman. And it was a further reminder as to why he is such a fan favourite amongst the Emirates faithful.
Rodgers, for one, must surely now be fed up of the sight of Ramsdale after coming up against the Arsenal goalkeeper on a couple of occasions this season.
