Celtic could do with a new right-back and Nathaniel Clyne is the ideal man for the role.
In Mikael Lustig, Celtic have had a loyal servant over the years. But in the past two or three seasons, his form has really dipped and Celtic now need to look to the future.
Lustig is 31 and not the player he once was. It is time to faze him out of the side and bring a new right-back to the club.
Clyne would be an excellent choice and he could be available after playing just once this season at Liverpool.
The ex-Crystal Palace and Southampton defender joined then-Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers at Anfield back in summer 2015.
But Rodgers only had a couple of months to work with Clyne before receiving the sack.
Now is the perfect time for these two to reunite. Rodgers needs a new right-sided defender and Clyne needs a new club.
The 27-year-old has dropped below Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez in the battle for the right-back spot.
But he is still in the prime of his career and would be an asset for Celtic. He just needs more game time.
The 14-cap England international has plenty of experience in England and he suits Celtic.
His natural willingness to attack would aid Celtic’s style of play and his defensive contributions are better than Lustig’s.
This is a move that would work for all parties.
