Robin van Persie was one of the greatest finishers in Premier League history during his pomp.
The Dutchman won the Premier League Golden Boot on two separate occasions, and, at one point, it seemed as though everything he touched turned to goals.
Robin van Persie was an incredible finisher. So much so that Theo Walcott said that Van Persie was a better finisher than Thierry Henry.
However, speaking to ESPN, the man himself has been rating his finishing ability against some of the greats from the Premier League era, and he’s made some interesting claims.
Van Persie maintains that he’s a better finisher than the likes of Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak, but he conceded that Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is now a better finisher than he ever was.

Robin van Persie says Mohamed Salah is a better finisher than he was
Van Persie was asked to name the better finisher between himself and Salah.
Both men are deadly in front of goal and have absolute wands of left feet.
However, Van Persie has admitted that the £34m man is a better finisher than he was.
However, that isn’t to say that Van Persie doesn’t rate his own abilities as a striker as he still picked himself ahead of a number of other Premier League stars.
Salah compared to Van Persie
Van Persie says that Salah is a better finisher than he was, and the numbers back that up.
Indeed, while Van Persie was a lethal striker in his day, Salah has taken that to another level, and the stats show it.
| Mohamed Salah | Robin van Persie | |
|---|---|---|
| 291 | PL Games | 280 |
| 182 | PL Goals | 144 |
| 3 | Golden Boots | 2 |
| 32 | Most goals in a season | 30 |
Salah is in Ballon d’Or winning form at the moment, and barring a minor miracle, Liverpool will win the Premier League title this season.
Indeed, Arsenal’s race looks run in the Premier League as Kai Havertz is now out with an injury, and Arsenal don’t have any striking options.
The Gunners would give anything to have a striker like Van Persie in their team at the moment, but, unfortunately for Arsenal, players of this calibre only come around once in a generation.
