Roberto Martinez has given his verdict on Manchester United attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Martinez is the Portugal manager, and he has been raving about Fernandes.

So, what has Roberto Martinez said about Bruno Fernandes? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes

Well, Roberto Martinez has been speaking highly of Manchester United and Portugal attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Martinez is now the Portugal manager, and he works with Fernandes. The former Belgium boss has noted what makes the 29-year-old playmaker a special player.

Martinez told The Times about Fernandes: “Bruno’s a perfectionist. The emotions are always emotions for the right reasons. He cares about United. He cares about every aspect of trying to win a game. To be United captain now is not easy.

“Because it’s United and that demands wins and when you don’t [win] it’s difficult. He can cope with that with ease. He’ll just get up and try to help the others. You have to be accountable. That’s what you see with Bruno. He’s not someone that is going to accept defeat and hide away and let things go. He would stand up and fight.

“He’s a really intelligent player, thinking constantly of where there is space, and that’s why you see such a great combination in the international team with Bernardo Silva.”

My View: Bruno Fernandes has to do more

In my view, Bruno Fernandes has to do more for Manchester United and has to be the leader for the Red Devils when things do not go well.

Fernandes is 29 now and is at the top of his game at the moment. Now is the chance for him to make a difference for United.

The attacking midfielder has been on the books of United since January 2020 when he joined from Sporting Lisbon for an initial transfer fee of £46.6 million (Sky Sports).

Fernandes has made 142 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. He has scored 47 goals and given 36 assists in those games.

The Portugal international is a good player, but he does get frustrated a lot during matches and throws his arms around.

Now, I understand that it does not help Fernandes’s stats when there is no world-class striker in front of him to play killer balls to, but maybe he should score more goals himself. Graeme Souness thinks that he would be a star at Liverpool.

Fernandes has scored three goals and given three assists in 18 Premier League matches so far this season.

Last season, the playmaker scored eight goals and provided eight assists in 37 league games for the Red Devils.
