Roberto Firmino has ‘liked’ an Instagram post that has reported a story from The Sunday World’s Sunday edition (June 14, back page), claiming Philippe Coutinho has been in contact with Jurgen Klopp over a return to Liverpool.
Coutinho, 28, has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League after his move to Barcelona in January 2018 has failed to go as planned. The Brazilian has only played 76 times for Barcelona since his move.
Just 21 goals and only 11 assists saw Barcelona decide to ship him out on loan to Bayern last summer. The German champions are seemingly unlikely to spend big on the Brazilian, and a move to the Premier League is on the cards.
Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and other Premier League sides have been linked – as have Liverpool. But the Reds are certainly less interested, given they hardly have the financial power to spend big this summer.
The report states that Coutinho is ready to take a pay cut, given that he currently earns £250,000 a week (Sun). It also says he has spoken to Klopp over a return – and Firmino has liked a post reporting that story on Instagram.
Coutinho played alongside Firmino at Liverpool, where he became a fan favourite during his 201 appearances – in which he scored 54 goals and created 45 more. Fans felt betrayed when he left for Barcelona, though.
Since Coutinho’s departure, though, Liverpool have gone to a new level – using the money to buy Alisson and Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool supporters reacted to Firmino’s ‘like’, and many want Coutinho to return.
