West Ham United star Robert Snodgrass has assured fans he’s feeling fitter than ever.

The Scot may have turned 32 last month, but insists he is in top condition physically.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’m 32 years old but I feel as fit as I’ve ever been, but it’s hard, it’s tough, and I want to come in and do my best for the team.”

Snodgrass featured from the start in the weekend Premier League match against Sheffield United and helped himself to his first goal of the season on only his second league start.

Snodgrass was excellent on the day, and has done his chances of starting this weekend’s clash with Newcastle United no harm at all.

On his prospects of retaining his place, he said: “I played a lot of games last season but the manager has made some signings that he wants to play and I get that. I’m a team player and I’ve had to bide my time and try to take my opportunities when they come.”

TBR’s view – West Ham need Snodgrass right now

Manuel Pellegrini should not be thinking of removing Snodgrass from the starting lineup, with the Hammers in need of some experience out there at the moment.

It’s four without a win for the club now and the Chilean needs players who are going to run through brick walls for a result, and that is most definitely Snodgrass.

Not only is his brilliant work rate needed, but his genuine quality on the ball as well.
