Robert Snodgrass praises John McGinn ahead of Aston Villa meeting

Aston Villa have a new hero in midfield maestro John McGinn.

Aston Villa take on West Ham United tonight with the newly-promoted side looking to get back to winning ways after a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace last time out.

They will also be going up against a former fan favourite. Robert Snodgrass spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Villa Park. He had a fantastic campaign at the club, helping them reach the Championship play-off final. Unfortunately, they lost that game to Fulham. However, his good form at Aston villa won him a reprieve at West Ham and he will be hoping to face off with his former team-mates tonight.

Since his departure, Aston Villa fans have found a new Scottish midfield hero in John McGinn. His Scottish international team-mate has become a fan hero since his move from Hibernian and his performances have warranted the cult status he has built up.

Speaking to the official Aston Villa website this week, Snodgrass spoke very highly of McGinn.

“The club has its new Scotsman now in John [McGinn]. I’ve seen it, how popular he is. He’s top level, to be fair to him. He’s also got big potential in the commentary world!

“He’s a great lad and deserves everything he’s got so far. He’s a brilliant footballer and I’m really glad Villa fans have got to see what he’s about on and off the park.

“He’s one that’s definitely driven the team forward, and we’re still yet to see the best of him.”

There is no doubt that for Aston Villa to thrive in the Premier League, McGinn is going to need to be a key player.

He has already shown early on that he is Premier League quality and those summer links to Manchester United are starting to look justified.

Aston Villa fans will no doubt hope he gets the better of his international pal this evening as Dean Smith’s men look to move out of the relegation zone.
