Robert Pires made an astonishing claim about new reported Arsenal target in 2018

Arsenal are reportedly interested in luring Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele to north London this summer – and Gunners supporters will be intrigued by Robert Pires’ astonishing claim about the France international.

Spanish newspaper AS have claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing 22-year-old Dembele this summer, with the former Borussia Dortmund and Rennes star plummeting down the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde.

Indeed, a lengthy hamstring injury has limited Dembele to just nine appearances this season. Since joining Barca in the summer of 2017 for a whopping £135million (BBC), he has suffered a whole host of injury issues.

That has limited Dembele to just 74 appearances in three season – scoring 19 goals and creating 17 assists. Despite all this, Robert Pires once suggested he would not swap Neymar for Dembele in 2018, and that has got to convince Arsenal to move.

“If I had to choose, I would not change Dembele for Neymar. Ousmane is 21, plays with the left and the right with a lot of quality. He has a lot of potential, more than what we’ve seen so far,” Pires was quoted by the Mail as saying in 2018.

TBR’s view – Signing Dembele would take Arsenal into top four

Dembele is a top, top player and although injuries have limited him during his time at Barcelona, he is still one of the most-gifted young attackers in European football. He would instantly become one of Arsenal’s best players.

Given regular game time, not in the shadow of Lionel Messi or Antoine Griezmann, Arsenal can bring the best out of Dembele and in return – Dembele can bring the best out of Arsenal and return the Gunners to the top four.
