‘Robbing a living’: Fans rip into Tottenham’s Eric Dier after England display

Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier completed 90 minutes in the draw against Croatia on Friday night – and some England fans on Twitter annihilated him for his display.

Gareth Southgate’s side drew 0-0 away to Croatia in a Nations League fixture behind closed doors, with their opponents completing a UEFA sanction.

England missed out on the opportunity to avenge their World Cup semi-final defeat and missed a number of clear goalscoring opportunities in the second-half.

Dier got the nod in the starting XI alongside Chelsea’s Ross Barkley and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson in the midfield.

The 24-year-old anchored the backline in the defensive midfield role, but also saw his header from a corner ricochet off the post.

A selection of England fans on social media were highly critical of the Spurs ace after his impact against Croatia.

Dier isn’t the most pleasing player on the eye, but does his job effectively in the centre of the park by breaking up playing and keeping possession.

England travel to Spain next week for another Nations League fixture and Dier may be required, as international teammate Henderson is ruled out through suspension.

Here is some of the tweets on Dier’s performance:
