Robbie Savage outlines concerns about West Ham United amid relegation scrap

Robbie Savage has claimed on his BBC Sports Breakfast Show that he is concerned about West Ham United’s lack of pace as they look to survive another Premier League relegation scrap under David Moyes.

After 25 Premier League matches, West Ham currently sit in the relegation zone with just 24 points from 25 games. Their last three points came in the form of a 4-0 win over Bournemouth on New Year’s Day, in what was Moyes’ first game back.

The Hammers picked up just two points form their last possible 15, despite boasting enormous and expensive talent in the form of Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson, Sebastian Haller and plenty more. Relegation is a real possibility.

Savage discussed West Ham’s predicament on his BBC Radio 5 Live show and claimed that a lack of speed in the side is ultimately proving the east Londoners’ downfall, but did not state whether he felt the Hammers would survive the drop.

“I think they just lack pace. I watch them a lot, I watched them against Leicester. They got back into the game, but there is no pace in the side. That is a worry for me,” Savage said.

TBR’s view – Savage is right, but can West Ham survive?

On paper, the Hammers have the best team when compared to the likes of Norwich, Aston Villa, Watford, Bournemouth and Brighton. With the money spent on proven talent, the Hammers should be pushing for the top half of the table.

But that is only on paper. Given the knowledge that they are underperforming, while the likes of Villa and Watford expected to be down the wrong end of the table, the overriding pressure of failing to live up to expectations could affect them more.

Can West Ham survive? They need to trust their ability more. They need to stop conceding sloppy goals, and get Haller firing.
