BBC pundit Robbie Savage expects Jack Grealish to leave Aston Villa if a big-money bid comes in from a Champions League club.
On BBC Radio 5 Live (01/12/2019 4:30 pm start), Savage said that Tottenham, Manchester City or Chelsea – who are currently under a transfer embargo – could tempt the boyhood Villa fan away.
He said: “Aston Villa what are they going to achieve? Staying in the Premier League. If they achieve that it is going to be a great season for them, they are not winning a cup.
“If Manchester City, Spurs or Chelsea come with a massive offer for Jack Grealish, let’s say £80m, I think he’ll go. He’s far better than Aston Villa.”
TBR’s View – Villa fans have heard it all before
Savage’s comments are of the type Villa fans have come to expect when it comes to Grealish. They’ve heard for years now that he’ll be gone when a big club stumps up the cash.
But none of them ever have and Grealish has been unswerving in his loyalty to his boyhood club, inspiring them out of the Championship last season.
It would be absolutely staggering if he were to leave Villa before the end of the season. City won’t spend £80 million mid-season and need players in other roles, Chelsea can’t buy anyone and Tottenham are notoriously frugal.
If Villa went down, Grealish would have a real decision to make. But if he and Villa keep playing like they did at Old Trafford, the Premier League will await once more next season. Why would Grealish want to leave?
