Robbie Savage and Gary Lineker give damning verdicts on Leeds United

Robbie Savage and Gary Lineker have delivered damning verdicts on Leeds United after the Whites were completely dismantled at Old Trafford by a superior Manchester United, who capitalised on Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play.

United were 6-2 victors and were 2-0 up inside three minutes thanks to a Scott McTominay brace. Bruno Fernandes also scored twice, while Dan James and Victor Lindelof also got their names on the score sheet.

Leeds did net through Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas but they were always facing defeat, with United having chances to increase what was an impressive six goals. Leeds could have also found the back of the net more than just twice.

Bielsa’s style has come under the microscope this season and did so once again on Sunday evening, as pundits analysed the Leeds defeat. Savage thinks Leeds look tired, while Lineker hammered Leeds on Twitter.

“Leeds are all over the place – they look exhausted,” Savage told BBC Live (18.18, Sunday) “They look so tired. How much possession have they had in the middle of the park? It’s been wonderful from Manchester United.”

TBR’s view – Arguments against Savage and Lineker claims

Leeds are regarded as one of the fittest teams in the league, if not, top of that list. Where Leeds went wrong is going man to man against a United attack that boasted bags of speed – nothing to do with tiredness.

The Whites played 49 matches in all competitions last season. This time, they have only played 15 so far – tiredness is certainly not the problem. Lineker, meanwhile, has clearly forgotten that Leeds beat Newcastle 5-2 last week.

Ask The Toon’s players after last Wednesday’s clash if Leeds are a joy to play against, and Steve Bruce’s men will tell you it is difficult. Olivier Giroud claimed Leeds are the best he has faced in a while. Lineker has it wrong.
