Tottenham Hotspur have just had one of the most bizarre seasons of any Premier League club in recent memory.
Spurs have just finished 17th in the Premier League – their lowest league finish for a generation, but, they also won the Europa League.
Tottenham broke Inter Milan’s record as the lowest-placed side to ever win a European trophy, but, in doing so, they saved their season.
Ange Postecoglou’s job isn’t safe, but according to Chris Sutton, speaking on BBC 606, this has been a perfect season for Spurs.
Sutton was tasked with rating each team’s season out of 10, and he rated Ange Postecoglou’s campaign a 10 out of 10 due to the fact he won a trophy, much to the bemusement of Robbie Savage.

Robbie Savage stunned by Chris Sutton’s Ange Postecoglou verdict
Savage reacted after hearing Sutton’s verdict on Postecoglou’s season.
The pundit was shocked to hear Sutton give Spurs a 10 out of 10, suggesting that his Celtic bias may have played a part here.
Sutton has always been a Postecoglou fan, so that certainly needs to be considered.
“Tottenham?” Sutton was asked.
“It has to be a 10 out of 10 for Big Ange, they won a trophy,” Sutton said.
“What? A 10? They lost 22 games. 10 out of 10 for Spurs? Wow. Come on, play the game properly,” Savage said.
“That was the dream, when Ange Postecoglou came in to win a trophy, it’s a 10 for Tottenham,” Sutton said.
Savage again spoke about Sutton’s comments later in the show.
“They finished 17th in the Premier League, a 10 out of 10? Seriously. I guarantee you that if it wasn’t an ex-Celtic manager managing Spurs they’d get a five or six out of 10,”
Chris Sutton’s ratings for other teams
Sutton gave Tottenham a 10/10 rating, based on this season, and that rating only looks more ridiculous when you see how he rated other teams and their performances.
| Team | Chris Sutton’s rating |
| Arsenal | 5 |
| Chelsea | 7 |
| Tottenham | 10 |
| Nottingham Forest | 8 |
| Liverpool | 10 |
| Celtic | 9 |
Liverpool won the Premier League, but Sutton seems to think they had just as good a season as Tottenham.
Of course, expectations are different at Liverpool, but this is baffling to say the least.
As Savage says, Sutton may well be showing a bit of bias towards Postecoglou due to his Celtic connections.
Put it this way, if Postecoglou had a 10/10 season, he wouldn’t be on the verge of losing his job.
