Robbie Gotts can be Adam Forshaw replacement after return from injury

Leeds United’s push for promotion to the Premier League is going to need all hands to the pump, which is why Adam Forshaw’s recent injury setback was such a bitter blow.

The midfield maestro is out of action for the season after requiring surgery on a hip injury. It means Leeds are slightly short in the heart of midfield for their league battle.

However, they were given a big boost yesterday evening, with the return of Robbie Gotts.

The 20-year-old finally made his debut for Leeds against Arsenal in the FA Cup in January.

It was a long time coming. Despite Marcelo Bielsa being a big fan of the player, even gushing over the youngster to the YEP in November last year, he spent 35 games on the Leeds bench without making a debut.

“He’s a number eight. A midfielder, he is not offensive and not defensive, he’s a number eight.

“I have never seen a player play with such a dynamic. He’s a player with skills.”

Gotts starred in that FA Cup game, not looking out of place in the heart of midfield. It seemed he was all set for regular first-team action after that, with Bielsa praising his display (as reported by Leeds Live).

“Gotts got what he deserved. The fact he played is up to him because all his effort is linked to his skill as well.

“Principally, for his skill and his abilities, the person who has to be proud is himself.”

However, Gotts seemed to vanish after that. It was only earlier this month, five weeks after his debut, that it was confirmed the youngster was out with a ‘muscular’ injury.

But now Gotts is back. He came on after 30 minutes of Leeds United under-23’s 1-1 draw with Wolves last night and caught the eye with his display. His performance even saw him awarded man-of-the-match by Leeds Live.

Towards the end of last season, it was another youngster in Jamie Shackleton who came in and performed well for the Leeds United first-team.

On this occasion, perhaps Gotts can step up and help the West Yorkshire side back to the Premier League.
