Robbie Fowler sticks up for Mo Salah amid talk of his greediness in front of goal

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has defended current Red Mo Salah after he was called greedy, as per the Daily Mirror.

Salah was called greedy for snubbing a pass to Sadio Mane, which prompted the Senegalese forward to react angrily when substituted, with even Arsene Wenger joining in, as per BeIn Sports, via the Sun.

But Fowler said: “Everyone commenting and talking nonsense about being ‘greedy’ or destroying team spirit, have they never watched football before? You can’t be a top-class goalscorer without total belief you will score.

“You don’t score that many goals without being what people say is selfish. Do they want him to be a goalscorer or do they want him to be someone who’s always looking to pass? You can’t really have both.”

TBR’s View – All that matters is Mane and Salah remaining on the same page

Fowler’s defence of Salah was fairly predictable and it actually makes sense. He doesn’t try and pretend Salah isn’t selfish – that’s clear for all to see – but seeks to explain why he is and why that’s nothing unusual at the top level.

That’s no problem as long as Sadio Mane is on board with that Salah-centric approach and his reaction at Burnley suggested the frustration with it got the better of him on the day.

There’s no serious problem between the pair – Liverpool couldn’t have been so successful of late if there was – but Mane has now made it clear he won’t tolerate being ignored if Salah doesn’t hit the net instead.

Fowler even admits his own frustration that he didn’t play alongside a more creative partner during his career and it seems like Mane feels that way too.
