Robbie Fowler and Mark Lawrenson predict Liverpool clash against Man United

It is like the old days. Liverpool take on Manchester United but for the first time in a long time, it is first against second at Anfield – and both Mark Lawrenson and Robbie Fowler have predicted the outcome ahead of Sunday.

Liverpool have been overtaken by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s in-form United – who remain unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games in which they have won nine and drawn twice. Liverpool, meanwhile, are not at their best.

The Reds have won just two of their last six Premier League matches – drawing against Fulham, Newcastle and West Brom while also losing to Southampton. Last time out, they beat Aston Villa’s kids 4-1 in the FA Cup.

Fowler has told his new podcast that he thinks Liverpool will secure a win despite the contrast in form, while Lawrenson has backed a 1-1 draw between the two sides – even though the Reds are playing at Anfield.

“What a horrible question that is,” Fowler told his new podcast. “My prediction is just a Liverpool win. I actually don’t care what score, Liverpool will win the game. That’s a confident Liverpool win.”

 

Lawrenson told his BBC column: “Liverpool are going through an indifferent spell, but they have not become a bad side. They will create chances, too. They just need to take them this time. I am going for a draw.”

Liverpool will be without six first-team players going into Sunday’s clash, with Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Diogo Jota and Naby Keita all sidelined.

United, meanwhile, could be missing Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Brandon Williams. Liverpool have excellent recent history against United, with the latter winning just one of the last 10 meetings.
