Arsenal fans have been very impressed with the form of Rob Holding in recent weeks. A player they nearly let join Burnley in January has become a regular under Unai Emery and put in perhaps his best ever Arsenal performance against Liverpool at the weekend. Arsenal are unbeaten this season when Holding plays. Signed for just £2 million in the summer of 2016, the former Bolton Wanderers star’s development is a huge boost for Arsenal this season.
However, it surely puts a final nail in the coffin of one of his good friend’s and another young Arsenal defender’s career.
By comparison to the Holding fee, the £16 million Arsenal paid for Calum Chambers seems expensive.
When you compare how the pairs seasons are contrasting, it looks even more of a waste.
Chambers is currently on loan at Fulham, after signing a new deal at Arsenal in the summer. The three-cap England international, who at 23 is the same age as Holding, has been poor for Fulham this season.
The Cottagers are bottom of the Premier League with the Arsenal loanee barely helping their cause.
After a horror show performance against Cardiff City, where Josh Murphy tore him to ribbons, Chambers has been benched by Fulham.
Holding is the same age and plays the same position. The difference is, he is now thriving. Therefore, it would appear there is no room for Chambers at The Emirates.
It will be no surprise if he does not play for Arsenal again.
