Last week saw one of the more surprising transfers in the Premier League take place. Former England international Rob Green has joined Chelsea. The 38-year-old veteran has signed as the back-up to Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero at Stamford Bridge. His move is a shrewd one. A former England international, he can provide an option in cup games and perhaps even the Europa League.
For fans of Leeds United, seeing Green join a club as big as Chelsea has hit a nerve.

Last summer Green was turfed out of Leeds in unceremonious fashion. Thomas Christiansen and Victor Orta wanted someone better with the ball at their feet so snapped up German stopper Felix Wiedwald. He turned out to be a dud and was moved on this summer after eventually losing his starting spot to youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Green, not happy with being second choice at Leeds, joined Huddersfield Town.
The season previously Green had been a mainstay of Garry Monk’s promotion-chasing side. Providing a solid base at the back he played in all 46 of Leeds Championship fixtures that season and was one of their most consistent performers.
Now he is set to challenge for silverware, albeit as back-up, with Chelsea in the Premier League and Europe.
Leeds should never have let him go.
