Rob Green says what Leeds players have told him about Marcelo Bielsa

Rob Green has told LUTV that he is still in contact with some of Leeds United’s current players, and claims that some of the Whites do not always understand Marcelo Bielsa’s orders – but completely trust their Argentine manager.

Leeds have caught the eye since gaining promotion to the Premier League, with Bielsa’s style attracting plaudits from far and wide. They sit in 14th place, but have played some of the Premier League’s best clubs already.

Indeed, Leeds have already faced Wolves, Leicester, Everton, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea in their first 11 matches. Despite that, they have netted 14 points from 11 games.

Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Green said he is still in contact with some of the Leeds players after turning out for the Whites during the 2016-17 campaign under Garry Monk. He claims what those Leeds players have told him about Bielsa.

“They love him,” Green said. “They think he’s everything you could imagine him to be. They trust him implicitly because they get what he’s doing. I don’t think they understand every time.

“But they trust the fact they’re learning and the reasons he comes up with it is mind-blowing – but makes perfect sense. He’s taken some of them to places they couldn’t have imagined of going under previous managers or clubs.”

TBR’s view – Bielsa’s achievements are amazing

It certainly explains why he has been nominated as one of FIFA’s best five managers this season. Taking a side that finished in mid-table to promotion, and then impressing in the Premier League, is a serious achievement.

Mateusz Klich was on the scrapheap, out on loan. Liam Cooper was in and out of the side, Stuart Dallas was not scoring enough goals out wide, some wanted Kalvin Phillips sold and Luke Ayling was inconsistent.

Now, they are the core of a side that are taking the top tier by storm – and Green’s comments on Bielsa shows just how much gratitude they have towards the Argentine gaffer.
