Rob Green has told Sky Sports News (11:55am, Wednesday) that Marcelo Bielsa will not “care” that Leeds United failed to bring Michael Cuisance to the club and plug the midfield gap – claiming he will just be happy to work with what he has got.

It has been an exciting start to the 2020-21 season for Leeds fans, both on and off the pitch. The first team has new faces including Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Rodrigo and deadline-day addition Raphinha from Stade Rennais.

On the pitch, Leeds have surpassed expectation – picking up seven points from their first four league games, despite facing Premier League champions Liverpool and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. However, Leeds did miss out on a midfielder.

Bayern Munich’s Cuisance was set to join Leeds but as per multiple reports, the £18million deal fell through due to a failed medical (Mail). Cuisance has since joined Marseille on a loan-to-buy basis, and Green thinks that leaves a hole in Bielsa’s side.

“If you watched Leeds last season, their form is no great surprise,” Green said. “How can they transform in the second half of the season is the question. They’ve added numbers in small amounts.

“They’ve started this season flying, the one position they missed out on is Cuisance from Bayern but the deal fell through. But Bielsa doesn’t really care, he doesn’t work like that, he will work with what he is given and he will get the best out of his players.

TBR’s view – Should Leeds sign a player from the Championship?

Here are the options, should the Whites re-enter the market for a central midfielder and finally sign a player that can permanently partner Mateusz Klich. Talks have reportedly been held for Norwich’s Todd Cantwell.

His teammate Emi Buendia is also likely to be an option. Brentford’s Said Benrahma, Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma, Watford’s Will Hughes and plenty of others could be considered by Leeds. It remains to be seen if they will sign a player, though.
