Leeds United snapped up Manchester City winger Jack Harrison on loan yesterday. The deal finally saw the Whites utilise their links with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and the England under-21 international will now hope to play a pivotal role for Leeds next season.
Harrison may have struggled to make an impact at Middlesbrough on loan last season, but forged an excellent career for himself in the United States. The winger was one of the stars of the New York City team in MLS where he played with the likes of Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.

Another of his former team-mates is a current rival to Leeds United’s promotion hopes. Derby County will be hoping to challenge at the top end of the second-tier this season, with Frank Lampard as manager. The Chelsea legend is clearly a big fan of Harrison’s. A year ago, Frank Lampard had this to say about his former team-mate to MLS Soccer.
“I speak to Jack all the time. I think there a lot of big things to come from Jack. I like him, he’s a great lad, great ability.”
Leeds have already had dealings with Lampard this summer. His Rams side beat them to the punch with the transfer of Florian Jozefzoon from Brentford. Leeds also tried signing Matej Vydra from Derby, a deal which appears to have fallen aground.
Next season both sides will be hoping to challenge at the top end of the Championship table. If Harrison can help Leeds finish above his former team-mate, it will be an extra sweet victory for the West Yorkshire side.
