Riqui Puig video shows exactly why Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen

The Barcelona midfielder has been a long-term target for Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s special young talent Riqui Puig in recent months. The young midfielder, according to SPORT, was ‘very close’ to joining Tottenham in May. That came amid a new contract offer at Barcelona which he did not take up.

In the end, Barcelona talked him round.

Puig signed a new deal running until 2021 in the summer. That deal also includes a massive €100 million (£88.7 million) release clause.

During the last international break, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was spotted watching the Barcelona B side in action. This fuelled speculation that he was still keen on signing the talented midfielder.

Of course, Puig is a talent and his association with Barcelona has already seen him likened to a young Andres Iniesta.

However, not many fans will have actually seen him play.

Yesterday, Barca B took on the Valencia second string in a game which ended 2-2. Puig played in the fixture and a video of his performance has been doing the rounds on Twitter.

This clip from Beteve Sport shows just how impressive a talent Puig is:

Tottenham fans now know they may have missed their best chance of signing the youngster but watching this video it is hard not to hope that they can manage to convince Barca into a deal next summer.

With Puig also potentially in line to feature against Spurs in the Champions League next week, Puig’s will certainly continue to catch the eye of the Spurs hierarchy.
