Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that Red Devils prodigy Alejandro Garnacho needs to work on his decision-making.
Ferdinand, speaking on Vibe With FIVE, stuck up for the 19-year-old Manchester United ace after co-host Ste Howson deemed the player’s decision-making “poor”.
The Old Trafford icon stressed that Garnacho‘s decision-making is likely just a case of him being young and backed him to work on it and improve as he develops.
Garnacho burst into the Red Devils fold last season and has become an important first-team player for Erik ten Hag this term, making 28 starts this term.

The Argentine talent is United’s joint-most productive player in the Premier League this term, tied with Bruno Fernandes on 10 goal contributions each.
Within the last four months, Garnacho has scored five goals and notched five assists. However, his decision-making has let him down at times.
Manchester United ace Alejandro Garnacho urged to work on his decision-making
The FIVE panel discussed Garnacho and fellow Manchester United prodigy Kobbie Mainoo, with Howson saying: “I think Garnacho’s decision-making has been poor, to be honest.”
Joel Beya was stunned by Howson’s take, replying: “Poor is a strong word”. Meanwhile, Ferdinand said: “It’s young. Nah, it’s young.
He explained: “Most young players do everything and then that’s the hardest part of the game, decision-making.
“Most of the young players, other than your super-elites like the Rooneys when you come through, the Bellinghams, etc…
“Other than those guys, they’re getting that right at such a young age which makes them that elite level and special.
“Garnacho, the only part of his game at the moment for me that he needs to work on is that decision-making. But I think that’s just youth. I hope. You’ve got to develop that.”
Alejandro Garnacho on track to become a star at Manchester United – opinion
It’s hard to forget that Garnacho is just 19 years of age, considering he’s been in the first team for two seasons and has been a regular starter this term, with 73 Man United outings to his name.
Ferdinand knows what he’s talking about, and to hear him pour cold water on Howson’s claim, stressing that decision-making is largely tied to age and relative inexperience, was good to hear.
Garnacho is still at the start of his journey and impressing for one of the Premier League’s biggest teams already. No doubt he’ll become a star as he continues to develop.
