Rio Ferdinand has shared on BT Sport (broadcast on 13/3; 14:48) the claim Patrick Bamford made about Leeds United supporters and the difference they could have made to their season if they were able to attend games.

Leeds have experienced a lot since the fans were inside Elland Road celebrating a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side sealed promotion to the Premier League. And they look to be on course to secure a second consecutive year at the highest level after an incredibly bright return to English football’s top table.

But could they have done even better this year? Well, according to Ferdinand, Bamford believes that there have been occasions when the supporters would have made a huge impact.

“When I spoke to Patrick Bamford this week, one of the things he spoke about was the difference that the fans would have made here,” he told BT Sport. “There’s games he’s even picking out, the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, he said: ‘we probably would’ve won that game, they’d have got us over the line’.

“They’d get that little bit extra out of the individuals and the team as a collective. The team playing with the fans here will be an absolutely different proposition.”

It will be fascinating to see how Leeds get on when they can fill Elland Road once again. The supporters are desperate to get back and properly enjoy Premier League football after such a long time away from the top flight.

There are also players such as Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Rodrigo Moreno and Raphinha who are yet to play in front of the Leeds fanbase.

Based on what they have achieved this year, next season could be something seriously special if Leeds do indeed step up their game when the fans are back.
