Rio Ferdinand shares what he thinks Ange Postecoglou will have done with the Manager of the Year trophy from the London Football Awards, as he agreed that David Moyes should have pipped the Tottenham Hotspur boss to the honour.

There may have been some raised eyebrows last week when Ange Postecoglou was named as Manager of the Year at the event ahead of the likes of Mikel Arteta, David Moyes, Emma Hayes and Richie Wellens. Obviously, the Australian has done an outstanding job since being named as Antonio Conte’s permanent successor in the summer.

Tottenham led the league in the opening weeks of the campaign. And, while they had a largely fully fit squad, they played some of the best football in the division.

The shine has come off their season a little over the last couple of months. But they are clearly moving in the right direction under Postecoglou.

Nevertheless, Rio Ferdinand suggested on his YouTube channel that he is not sure why the Spurs boss won the award, before agreeing that Moyes should have been recognised instead after West Ham’s Europa Conference League win.

“Yeah, I don’t know [how he won it],” he said.

“It’s a great shout,” he added, when it was put to him Moyes should have won.

“I reckon Ange has sent it to David Moyes, because that’s the type of guy he is.”

Tottenham boss will be the first to suggest others deserve title more

Postecoglou himself admitted that receiving the award was ‘bizarre‘ considering that he had only arrived in the summer. So it certainly seems that he was not expecting to pick up the prize.

You could arguably make a case for any of the contenders. Emma Hayes won the league and cup double with Chelsea in 2023. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has helped transform Arsenal. And of course, that night in Prague secured legendary status for a number of people associated with West Ham.

Postecoglou was perhaps an odd choice. But no-one will probably say that louder than the Tottenham boss himself.
