Rio Ferdinand says whether he thinks Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus is better than Noni Madueke at Arsenal

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have both been busy adding attacking talent to their squads this summer.

Tottenham are beginning a new era under Thomas Frank, and the club have already welcomed Mohammed Kudus to N17 in a big-money deal.

Kudus’ progress somewhat stagnated at West Ham United last season, but he’s clearly a player with so much potential and ability.

Over in N5, Arsenal have been busier than Spurs on the transfer front.

Along with the likes of Martin Zubimendi who’s arrived to revamp Mikel Arteta’s midfield, Arsenal have also signed Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres as catalysts for their attack.

And in actual fact, Kudus and Madueke both arrived at their new clubs for fairly similar fees.

With that in mind, Rio Ferdinand has now discussed the duo’s potential on his podcast.

Speaking alongside Joel Beya, Ferdinand offered his thoughts on the idea that Kudus was a better player or signing than Madueke.

Ferdinand has been rightfully outspoken on the social media abuse Madueke received even before he was announced as an Arsenal player — some supporters seemingly felt as if he wasn’t the right signing.

But when it came to comparing Madueke and Kudus, Ferdinand actually thought the duo had a similar ceiling.

Starting the chat, Ferdinand asked: “Is Kudus massively better than Madueke?”

And he then gave his view: “I think potential wise I don’t think there’s a massive difference. I think the age is a big thing.

“The amount of games Madueke has played compared to Kudus, I think there’s a big difference — he hasn’t had the exposure in the Premier League, especially.

“I think Madueke has got a high ceiling, I think he can go places, I think he’s a really good addition.”

Kudus and Madueke’s stats in the Premier League compared

As Ferdinand referenced, Madueke (23) is two years younger than Kudus (25).

But in terms of the duo’s Premier League experience, it’s actually incredibly close, and the pair have scored the exact same amount of goals in the English top flight.

Perhaps the coming season will be able to provide further insight into any comparison.

But given that Kudus is going to Spurs as a key player, and that Madueke might need to earn a spot from a somewhat peripheral figure at first, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Tottenham man had a more productive season.

But either way it’s clear that both forward-thinking midfielders are full of talent, two excellent signings for their new teams.

And with that in mind, Harry Redknapp gave his thoughts on Tottenham signing Kudus recently, a forward who will be missed in east London.
