Rio Ferdinand says 'elite' 98-cap player would transform Chelsea into title contenders
Rio Ferdinand has told his FIVE YouTube channel that Romelu Lukaku will be desperate to prove a point to Manchester United next season, amid his pending return to Chelsea.
The Belgian is closing in on a return to Stamford Bridge and the striker is now one of the most feared marksmen in world football.
Ferdinand believes the 28-year-old is determined and considers the Belgian as an elite player when it comes to world football.
Lukaku left Chelsea for Everton in 2014 and during spells with the Toffees, Manchester United and Inter, he’s really kicked on.
As a youngster at Stamford Bridge, he played in 15 games without scoring a goal. Many supporters believe he was sold too quickly and now he looks set for a return.
Ferdinand is excited to see him in action for the Blues and thinks he will be a solid signing for Chelsea.
He told the FIVE YouTube channel: “I’ve spoken to him recently and he’s hungry. I just think this guy, a lot of greatness comes through having fuel and what I mean by that is having doubters and wanting to prove them wrong.
“Romelu Lukaku guarantees you 20 goals, minimum. He guarantees it. He’s scored goals wherever he’s been, he’s an elite goalscorer, it’s as simple as that.
“Lukaku going there makes them an absolute threat to win the title. They could win it.”
Ferdinand is right; Chelsea are title contenders with Lukaku
Things are about to get very exciting for the Blues. Lukaku fired 29 goals last season for Inter as they romped to the Serie A title.
As a result, Lukaku won’t be coming to Chelsea just to go through the motions. He will be desperate to win titles and he’ll fancy doing that at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old is in his prime and he will instantly shake up Thomas Tuchel’s attack.
Chelsea might not have been fancied to rival Manchester City for the title, but their rivals had better watch out now.
