Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that Harry Kane is a player who can make you gasp, and suggested that he loves the Tottenham Hotspur star following another record-breaking weekend for the striker.

Kane has now scored more goals for one Premier League club than any other player after his winner against Wolves on Saturday. The England captain overtook Sergio Aguero with the decisive goal in their victory.

He is now on 185 goals in the Premier League. And he is edging closer and closer to the 260 Alan Shearer scored in the competition during his career. Certainly, it will not be too long before Shearer is the only player standing between Kane and the record.

The goal also proved to be the striker’s 250th for Spurs. He is now only 16 away from the record set by Jimmy Greaves for the club.

It is a further reminder of how we are currently watching one of the greatest goalscorers of any era. And Ferdinand could not praise Kane high enough following another landmark goal from the 29-year-old.

“You’ve got to take your hat off to him. In terms of pure goals, this geezer is as good as it comes. You can’t deny that. He’s going to be chasing down Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record. Whether he gets to it or not, I’m not sure,” he told his YouTube channel.

“But this guy, to score 250 goals anywhere, let alone at one club, and a club that hasn’t been anywhere near winning the league other than from one year in the time that he’s been there is some feat. His finishing is incredible.

“There haven’t been too many players in the Premier League since he’s been playing that have made you draw gasps in terms of finishing. He’d be up there in your top two or three in terms of crazy finishes from mad angles, right and left foot. I love him, I love Harry Kane.”

In many ways, Tottenham’s mixed start to the season could be encouraging. They came from behind against Southampton. And they were largely outplayed against Chelsea. There was also some discontent during their game against Wolves.

And yet, Spurs are unbeaten, and have taken seven points from three games. They are grinding results out.

From here, it could go one of two ways. It may be that Tottenham are not able to kick through the gears and it proves to be an underwhelming season.

But it could easily be that, at some stage, everything does click. And if it does, Tottenham, and Harry Kane, could be on the cusp of a historic period.
