Rio Ferdinand has lauded Gabriel Jesus on his YouTube channel and claimed that he has been an unreal addition for Arsenal, but insisted that he is not the signing of the summer in the Premier League.
Jesus’ arrival at the Emirates appears to be a game-changer for Mikel Arteta’s side. It is surely not too dramatic to say that the Gunners were a prolific striker away from a comfortable top-four finish last season.

Jesus has perhaps not quite been as lethal as he would like. He has scored two goals in his first four appearances. But there is absolutely no question that he has been a stunning signing for Arsenal.
He has already provided three assists. And some of the glimpses of quality have simply been breathtaking.

However, Ferdinand took exception with the idea that Jesus was the signing of the summer. He insisted that Erling Haaland has to take that honour with six goals already.
“I think that Jesus’ impact has been unreal and I think he’s been a fantastic signing, an absolute major signing for Arsenal. But please, don’t go overboard like all Arsenal fans,” he told his YouTube channel.
“When you’ve got Haaland banging in a hat-trick at the weekend, and you’re going Jesus is overshadowing him still, what are you talking about?”
Gabriel Jesus not the signing of the summer
It is hard to argue that Jesus has been a better signing than Haaland.
It was simply a masterstroke for Arsenal to land Jesus. In today’s game, £45 million is clearly a bargain – even when you factor in his contract situation.
But City only paid £6 million more for Haaland. That has the potential to be one of the finest pieces of business in Premier League history given his age.
Both players have been outstanding. And there may well be plenty of Arsenal fans who believe that Jesus has been the signing of the summer.
But surely, Haaland has, so far, eclipsed the incredibly high bar Jesus has set.
