Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Everton’s owners may have a conundrum to face in the January transfer window as to whether or not they should spend big.
The Toffees have had an excellent opening few months of the Premier League season, as they currently sit just three points adrift of leaders and Merseyside rivals Liverpool in the table.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are looking like genuine European contenders and their current four-game winning streak has seen them fly up the league standings, which has made supporters extremely excited about where they could end up finishing.
Ferdinand has suggested that Everton may need to consider making the most of their great start this season by investing further next month in the transfer window.
They recruited exceptionally well in the summer with the likes of Ben Godfrey, James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, so certainly have the financial power.
Farhad Moshiri is the majority shareholder at Goodison Park and there has been a large injection of cash put into the club, but they may need to improve the group to sustain competing around the top four all season.
“We know that the owners and the people that run Everton have the cash,” Ferdinand said on his own Youtube channel.
“Will they smell something and think if we put a bit of money into this, we could actually do something really great this season for Everton.
“That is the conundrum they are in. ‘Do we go for it, do we spend a bit more money and invest or do we say we are going to go with what we’ve got’ because they are picking up injuries that’s the problem. It’s not a squad with huge depth.”

TBR’s View:
Everton proved their ambition with some eye-catching additions in the summer, while the year before they spent big on the likes of Alex Iwobi, Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes.
They have looked to improve the team year-on-year with a few big-name players each summer, but to really close the gap to the elite they need the full squad.
With this season throwing up so many unexpected results and being played in front of no crowds, it looks like the perfect opportunity for one of the non-traditional top six clubs in the Premier League to pull off a surprise.
