Rio Ferdinand claims Scott McTominay has a ‘big decision’ to make over his Manchester United future this summer.

Scott McTominay has popped up with some important goals for Manchester United this term. The Scotsman’s latest effort handed Erik ten Hag’s men a crucial 2-1 win at Villa Park.

Despite not starting a league game since December, McTominay is proving to be an important part of Ten Hag’s squad.

The midfielder has received interest from the likes of West Ham, Newcastle United and Everton.

And after being linked with a move away from Old Trafford last summer, Rio Ferdinand believes McTominay will face a key decision over his future at the end of the season.

Ferdinand says McTominay has ‘big decision’ to make at Man United

Speaking on talkSPORT, Ferdinand discussed why he believes McTominay could yet seek a move away from United.

“He’s important to the squad,” Ferdinand said. “It’s there to see in back and white. I just think he’s got a big decision to make at the end of the season.

“There were rumours he was leaving in the summer, I think West Ham were interested. I think it’s up to him.

“Does he want to stay at Man United and be somebody that can come on and impact games at times? He’s going to get a run of games here and there because of injuries and fatigue of players.

“If the best players in the team are fit he may not start all the time. Or does he want to go elsewhere and be a mainstay in a team that has probably got less aspirations than Man United.

“Obviously there is also the glitz and glamour that comes with United.”

He added: “If he was going to have go the feelings he’s having now, I don’t think it’s a decision.

“I think he stays because he’s scoring goals and impacting games. He’ll still feel a big part of it.”

The majority of players would prefer to be one of the first names on the team sheet and you’d imagine that McTominay is no different.

Yet, he’s featured 28 times for United this term and is an integral part of Ten Hag’s squad.

He leads the way in terms of goals in the league for United this season.

The Scotsman faces stern competition for a place in Ten Hag’s midfield but he may fancy his chances of breaking into the side if he continues to provide in the final third.
