Rio Ferdinand has named the Newcastle United player he believes would be unbelievable under Jose Mourinho if the Portuguese ever replaced Eddie Howe on Tyneside.
There is plenty of intrigue to see where Jose Mourinho goes next after Roma sacked the 60-year-old earlier this month.
Unsurprisingly, it was put to Rio Ferdinand that Newcastle may be his next landing spot. The Magpies, of course, have huge ambitions following their takeover a couple of years ago.
Rio Ferdinand thinks Newcastle star would be unbelievable under Jose Mourinho
Eddie Howe has done an amazing job. He led Newcastle to safety in his first season with the club. And they qualified for the Champions League last year. Had it not been for an awful penalty decision against Paris Saint-Germain, Newcastle would have potentially made the knockout stages in Europe.

However, their Premier League season has been more disappointing. They sit 10th in the table. So some may be wondering if Howe could soon come under pressure.
It was suggested to Ferdinand on Vibe with Five that Mourinho could become a contender to become the next Newcastle boss. And while he insisted that he wants Howe to stay, he did admit that he could see Mourinho making a real impact on Tyneside.
“I’d love to see him there. But Eddie Howe, he’s been unreal,” he said.
“I wouldn’t want to see Eddie go.
“Someone like Isak, he would be unbelievable [under Mourinho].”
Striker already doing pretty well under Eddie Howe
In fairness to Howe, Alexander Isak has already been brilliant during his time at St James’ Park. He has scored 10 goals in 16 league games this season, including three in his last three.
He averages slightly worse than a goal every two games across his 50 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions. And that is an outstanding return given that he has had injury issues.
That symbolises the impact Howe has had on a number of players. He has overseen huge improvements in so many members of the squad. And the fans continue to back the Newcastle boss.
Certainly, it would be a big gamble if the club decided to sack Howe and replace him with Mourinho.
