Rio Ferdinand reacts to Thiago display in Liverpool win

Rio Ferdinand has lauded Thiago Alcantara following his performance for Liverpool against Manchester United, telling his YouTube channel that he was imploring anyone to try and get close to him to stop him pulling the strings.

Thiago was one of the stars of the show on Tuesday as the Reds moved top of the Premier League. They thrashed Ralf Rangnick’s men 4-0 at Anfield.

The gulf between the two was much larger than the five places between in the table would suggest. United were absolutely woeful for the large majority of the contest.

But that should not distract from how good Liverpool were. Some of the football from their front three was absolutely terrifying. And yet, it felt that they did not even need to get out of third gear.

Another who was absolutely outstanding was Thiago. The Spaniard produced one of his best performances for Liverpool in the emphatic win. He was pulling the strings with so much ease.

And Ferdinand suggested that the performance from Thiago encapsulated everything that was wrong with Manchester United. He shared his desperation for someone to do something to try and stop him.

“Thiago, it was like he was in the school playground taking liberties, just trying stuff out. Taking libs. Someone get close to him please and put a hand on him at least. I know it’s difficult sometimes, but he was doing things, ‘let me just try this one quickly’, taking liberties,” he told his YouTube channel.

Manchester United’s awful display should take little away from how good Thiago and Liverpool were

Of course, Liverpool were not up against a good team. United have been so poor for some time. And they seemed to lose all remaining confidence when Luis Diaz put the Reds in front inside the opening minutes.

But Liverpool were still absolutely sensational. And they could have been so much better also. They themselves started the second-half slowly.

It is frightening to think about what level Liverpool could have reached. There still looks to be more to come from the likes of Thiago and the Reds.
