Everton have completed the £20million signing of Ben Godfrey from recently-relegated Norwich City with the England Under-21 defender signing a five-year deal at Goodison Park – and Rio Ferdinand has reacted on Instagram.

Godfrey, 22, has put pen to paper on a move to Goodison Park after Carlo Ancelotti looked to strenghthen his options at centre-back. With Mason Holgate sidelined, Ancelotti has just Yerry Mina and Michael Keane as options at the back.

The centre-back was one of a number of impressive players in Norwich’s side last season – despite the Canaries relegation. Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons, Jamaal Lewis and Godfrey were all expected to move, though Cantwell and Aarons remain.

Godfrey reacted on Instagram after putting pen to paper, underlining his delight at signing for Everton. It remains to be seen if he will be first choice ahead of Keane or Mina, but he is certainly going to get game time.

Landing Godfrey – who has cost Everton £20million (Sky Sports) – has taken the majority of the summer with Norwich looking for a fee closer to £30million earlier in the window.

Godfrey is represented by agency New Era Global Sports – where Ferdinand is an advisor – and the Manchester United icon responded on Instagram to the news that Godfrey had completed a move to Merseyside.
