Rio Ferdinand has taken to Twitter to give his thoughts on Leeds United completing the signing of Rodrigo Moreno.

On Saturday, the Whites announced Rodrigo’s arrival from Valencia for a club record transfer fee, reported by The Sun as being £36million.

Ferdinand previously held the Leeds transfer record, the Yorkshire side paying £18million to sign him from West Ham in November 2000.

The former England international went on to spend two years at Elland Road, departing in 2002 for Manchester United in Leeds’ record sale.

Here is what Ferdinand said about the Rodrigo deal – and his record being broken:

Rodrigo, who registered seven goals and 11 assists in 34 outings for Valencia last season, has put pen to paper on a four-year deal which will see him stay at Elland Road until 2024.

He is the seventh player to sign for Leeds this summer, following Illan Meslier, Dani van den Heuvel, Cody Drameh, Charlie Allen, Jack Harrison and Joe Gelhardt.

Rodrigo was linked to Barcelona earlier this year and, back in January, ahead of their La Liga trip to Valencia, former Blaugrana manager Quique Setien was asked about the player.

He told Marca: “Rodrigo? I like all good players. He’s an extraordinary footballer, tomorrow he could give us problems and he is a key player for their team.”
