'Far more good than bad': Rio Ferdinand loves one Arsenal player and thinks Arteta will use him all season long
Rio Ferdinand has been singing the praises of Oleksandr Zinchenko this evening, saying that Mikel Arteta will love what he brings to the fold.
Zinchenko has arrived at Arsenal as one of their big-money signings. Along with Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal raided Manchester City to sign the Ukrainian. And he immediately slotted into type this weekend, playing at left-back as the Gunners easily saw off Crystal Palace.
And speaking on tonight’s Vibe With Five show, former Man United and England man Ferdinand was forced to defender the Gunners newboy, and says Arteta will have carefully assessed Zinchenko’s qualities, before backing him to play a key role.
“He’s a great addition. I think a lot of coaches don’t look at the negatives now. They look at what he brings. Yeah they see the negativity but they’re more about what does he bring? What does he bring that’s going to enhance us with the ball and I think Zinchenko, does far more good for them than bad. I think, even his positions, when they’ve got the ball,” Ferdinand said on the Vibe With Five show tonight.
“I don’t think Arteta really wants him to play as a left-back. I think he wants to play him like a Cancelo-type player, like he did in pre-season.”
TBR’s View: Zinchenko A Key Arsenal Player Already
Sure, Kieran Tierney might be better some weeks. But Zinchenko is a proven and quality operator in this league and there is no doubting Arsenal have pulled of a coup here.
Zinchenko was excellent at the weekend and will continue to be excellent. He brings versatility to things as we know but also a winning mentality, which Arsenal have lacked at times.
Ferdinand was right to praise Zinchenko here and for a debut, it was as good a performance as you’ll see.
