Rio Ferdinand outlines the ‘gold dust’ Man United signing which Arsenal need emulate this season

Arsenal are in a bit of a rut at the moment in terms of finding goals.

The Gunners failed to score against Everton at home on Saturday, and, once again, questions were raised around their striking options.

Gabriel Jesus now hasn’t scored for almost a year, while Kai Havertz is being questioned again.

Speaking on his podcast, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing what Arsenal need to do, and he’s said that they need a striker who is a real killer in the box.

Ferdinand pointed towards the signing of Javier Hernandez at Manchester United as something that Arsenal need to try to replicate.

Arsenal need a player like Javier Hernandez

Ferdinand spoke about Arsenal’s striking problems.

The pundit says Arsenal don’t have anyone who can simply sniff out goals, claiming that Mikel Arteta needs a striker like Chicharito.

“These guys are the peripheral in and around the box and they’re going to have their moments to score, yeah? But who’s your killer?” Ferdinand asked

“That’s always there. Come rain or shine, the ball comes in the box. He’s anticipating, he’s smelling it, he’s seeing it.

“Like I said, a Chicharito now for you lot is gold dust. And he cost us 12, 13 million. Probably today’s game is going to cost you 30 million, which is still a snip in today’s market.”

Javier Hernandez compared to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz

Hernandez was never the main man for Manchester United, but he popped up with so many important goals for the Red Devils.

That’s something Arsenal really need Gabriel Jesus to start doing, because, at the moment, he’s letting the team down.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz’s goalscoring record isn’t brilliant either

Hernandez was a prolific goalscorer, Chicharito became Mexico’s all-time leading scorer after leaving Manchester United, and his record in the Premier League wasn’t bad either.

Arsenal do need that option in their squad, whether it’s as a starter or off the bench, someone who can come on and just find a goal from nothing.

Hernandez wasn’t Manchester United’s number one striker, he was at the club at the same time as Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and latterly Robin van Persie, but he did make a difference in key moments, and that is exactly what Arsenal need from a number nine right now.

As Ferdinand says, Arsenal would be wise to find the next Chicharito.
