Rio Ferdinand names three PL players he’d sign for Newcastle

Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he would make Raheem Sterling and Declan Rice his top two targets when asked to name three players he would sign for Newcastle United.

The Magpies are now under new owners. And already, speculation is rife regarding which players the club are going to target in January and next summer.

It remains to be seen what sort of approach the club take in the market. But they certainly have the funds to quickly turn Newcastle into a powerhouse on the pitch.

In his latest podcast, Ferdinand was asked to name three players he would prioritise moves for if he was Newcastle. And he went on to pick out two particularly ambitious names.

“I’d be looking at people like Raheem Sterling,” he told his YouTube channel. “Raheem Sterling’s not playing regularly, I’d go and ask the question. I’d go and ask Declan Rice, what’s going on? Them two would be the first two on my list. I’d go all out to get them.

“And then I’d be trying to get Jesse Lingard, who’s in and around the Man United squad.”

Newcastle signing any player cannot be ruled out as Ferdinand suggests Sterling and Rice

As things stand, it is incredibly difficult to know what Newcastle will be capable of in the market.

But they will surely have their Robinho moment, when they take the breath of the football world away with a massive statement in the window.

Admittedly, it is currently hard to see Rice joining the Magpies. He was valued at around £80 million in the summer.

That sort of fee may not be a problem for Newcastle. But they may struggle to convince Rice to join them while they are building.

Sterling, on the other hand, does not seem out of the question by any means.

The Daily Star recently noted that the £300,000-a-week star is out of contract at Manchester City in 2023, and is likely to be sold next summer if he does not extend his stay.

There are not many clubs that can afford Rice’s international teammate.

Newcastle are now one who can.
