‘I thought…’: Rio Ferdinand says only two Liverpool players deserve any praise from weekend Fulham draw

Rio Ferdinand has said that Liverpool need to be better and insisted only Harvey Elliott and new signing, Darwin Nunez, deserved any credit.

The Reds dropped their first points of the season on the opening day as Fulham held them to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage. There was a debut goal for Nunez, and the usual effort from Mo Salah. However, on the whole, it was a sub-par performance from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

And speaking on the Vibe with Five show tonight, former Manchester United star Ferdinand said that only Nunez and Elliott came out with any credit.

“None of them played to their level. They’re manager was quite scathing. Harvey Elliott, he came on as a sub, he impacted the game when he came on. I thought his rotations with Salah and Trent on the right, I think – I hope – it’s something we see more of this season,” Ferdinand said on Vibe With Five tonight.

“None of them played to their ability. Nunez impacted the game, he changed the game. He commanded the attention of two centre-backs, where Firmino didn’t. So I think it’s going to be him for the number nine shirt now.”

Elliott is back from a serious injury and is likely to feature now with Thiago injured. Nunez, meanwhile, will surely get a start sooner rather than later.

Darwin Nunez simply has to be the starting striker for Liverpool from now on, especially while Diogo Jota remains out injured.

For Elliott, he will surely now get more chances to impress and there is no doubt he has the quality and desire to take said chances.

Liverpool do need to improve, as Ferdinand says, and putting Elliott and Nunez in from the start this weekend might be the best thing Jurgen Klopp can do.
