Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Dele Alli put himself in the shop window with his performance in Tottenham’s 4-0 demolition of Wolfsberger last night.
The former central defender was working on BT Sport as part of the live coverage of the contest.
It was after Alli has produced a sublime display against the Austrian outfit that Ferdinand made the transfer claim.
The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham but this was a timely reminder of his quality.
He bagged a scintillating overhead kick and also registered two assists for his teammates.
Afterwards, Ferdinand suggested that Alli had placed himself firmly in the shop window.
He told BT Sport: “He’s been waiting for that and Dele has put himself in the shop window.”
Alli hasn’t been featuring in the Premier League this season, with just one start coming in the top-flight.
On last night’s showing, he has to be edging closer to more game time – especially considering Tottenham’s woeful league form.
TBR View: Alli deserves a run of Premier League games
Some of his critics are wise to suggest that Wolfsberger were hardly elite competition for Tottenham last night.
That’s not Alli’s fault though and all he could do was use the game as a platform to shine.
He did that with aplomb and his goal was the stuff dreams are made of, typifying how good he can be on his day.
The £100,000-a-week star has scored 65 goals and registered 59 assists for Spurs and deserves more respect from his boss.
Ferdinand is right that Alli put himself in the shop window last night but Tottenham shouldn’t entertain the concept of selling him.
