Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that Declan Rice is blossoming into a top player, and labelled the midfielder West Ham United’s standout performer in recent times.
David Moyes’s side have won four of their last five games. Their latest victory came on Friday as they came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road.
A number of players were superb in their latest win. But Rice arguably produced the most impressive contribution of the lot as he ran the show.
The 21-year-old – who earns £60,000-a-week, according to The Sun – continues to go from strength to strength. And following the game, Ferdinand claimed that the England international is getting better and better.
“Declan Rice, I think at the moment, is a standout player. He’s absolutely dominating the centre of the park,” he told his YouTube channel.
“The first-half against Manchester United, he did alright, did well. Against Leeds, very, very good. Solid, solid performance. And I think all-round, he seems to just be flourishing, really blossoming into a top player.”
Moyes has put together a fantastic partnership with Rice playing alongside Tomas Soucek. But the pair are not the only members of the West Ham squad performing superbly.
Angelo Ogbonna bounced back from an uncharacteristically poor first-half display to net the winner. Once again, by the end of the contest, he was proving a colossus in defence.
Said Benrahma caused all sorts of problems on his first start. And Leeds never really seemed to get to grips with Jarrod Bowen.
Sebastien Haller came in for criticism for struggling to hold the ball up at times. But the forward’s presence still left Leeds with plenty to think about. And he still managed to win his fair share of duels and tackles.
