'More to come': Rio Ferdinand thinks Liverpool 23-year-old is brilliant and sends warning to Reds supporters
Rio Ferdinand has been speaking all things Premier League and believes Liverpool have signed a top player in Darwin Nunez.
Nunez has come under fire for a lack of goals and finishing ability during games. Despite getting a number of big chances recently, the Uruguayan seems to be struggling to find the net.
However, speaking on his FIVE YouTube show, Ferdinand believes Nunez has something in his locker and warned Liverpool fans against pushing the forward away from the club, much like Diego Forlan was at Manchester United.
“I think Nunez has got something. And what I like about him is he’s getting the chances. I’d be more concerned if he wasn’t getting the chances. He’s a young player, he’s growing into his game, he’s in a new league. I think there is more to come from him,” Ferdinand said on FIVE.
In fairness to Nunez, he has scored five Premier League goals in 12 games so far. That record isn’t the worst and in a way, his price tag is probably weighing on his shoulders.
Nunez will have another chance to get among the goals tonight when Liverpool face Brentford. He came close to scoring against Leicester, hitting the post before forcing an own goal on the rebound.
TBR’s View: Nunez is doing enough to show he’s the real deal
Ferdinand makes a good point here in his comments. Nunez has a lot in the locker and at the moment, the goals just aren’t flowing. But over time, those goals will come and with that, he’ll get the recognition he probably deserves.
Jurgen Klopp is playing Nunez as he knows he’s bringing a lot to the team right now. He’s working hard, getting chances, and creating for others.
Nunez will get his goals, and once he does, the league will have to be fearful of his quality.
