Rio Ferdinand lauds West Ham boss David Moyes

Rio Ferdinand has labelled David Moyes’ performance at West Ham unbelievable as he named the Hammers boss as his manager of the year so far on his YouTube channel.

The Irons have been the surprise package of this Premier League campaign. West Ham sit sixth in the table and are just one point off the top four at present.

It has been a remarkable return given the reaction to the news that Moyes was returning to the London Stadium. At the time, it seemed to be an underwhelming appointment.

But Moyes’s doubters have been silenced emphatically. And when asked who the manager of the year has been so far, Ferdinand insisted that he would pick the Scot.

“David Moyes has been unbelievable,” he told his YouTube channel. “From where he’s taken them to where they are now, potentially challenging for Europe is an unbelievable turn of events at West Ham. Phenomenal.

“He comes in there, the crowd were saying ‘we don’t want him, we don’t need him, he’s not the man for us’. Now they’re all saying give him a new deal.”

Despite his success, Moyes remains under pressure to ensure that West Ham do not slide down the table.

It was clear in January that the Hammers have an amazing opportunity to achieve something special this term. And yet, Moyes decided against bringing in a new striker following Sebastien Haller’s departure.

That looks to be a major gamble. It may pay off and West Ham finish in a strong position that allows them to attract a more exciting name in the summer.

But the supporters may have questions once again should the side not capitalise on their current position.
